Rise of the Shadow Dragons by Liz Flanagan

Rise of the Shadow Dragons is an amazing book and I think it may be one of my new favorites. I had forgotten how much I love reading dragon books until I picked this book up, planning to read it in the background of a few other books. Once I started reading it, I dropped everything to finish it. Rise of the Shadow Dragons is impossible to put down. It would make a good gift for anyone between 8 and 14 or any dragon lover.

Jowan’s twelfth birthday was on the same day as Hatching Day – the day when baby dragons hatch and bond with their rider – and it is his dream to bond with a dragon. When disaster strikes and his world quickly becomes a darker and more dangerous place, a new friend and an astonishing discovery could lead to everything he he has always wanted. But only if he will take the leap and risk the fall, brave the impossible in the face of an erupting volcano.

When I first started reading Rise of the Shadow Dragons, I kept thinking of how it was super similar to Dragon Daughter. It took me almost ten chapters to look at the front page of this book and realize that it’s actually the sequel to Dragon Daughter. This book works great as a follow up to Dragon Daughter or as a standalone book.

I love the characters in this book, especially the dragons. My favorite is probably Ren because she’s impossible not to love. She’s smart, funny and the best wiggly little dragon (no offense to Fidell, he’s just as amazing).
