The Time Tider by Sinéad O’Hart

The Time Tider is about Mara, she and her dad have been living in a van for longer than she can remember. Her father’s strange job making them move somewhere new almost everyday. She never new what he did and never thought to question it.

After witnessing her father disappear before her, she starts to question her father’s job. She soon discovers he is the Time Tider, he is responsible for harvesting dangerous warps that form from lost time. Her father is the only person keeping time flowing as it should. Mara’s father is kidnapped before she can confront him about his job. With the fabric of time and space at stake, Mara must take the role as the Time Tinder. She and her new friend Jan must save her dad before it is too late.

I loved The Time Tider because of its fast paced adventure and vivid characters. The Time Tider is an amazing middle grade book that highlights friendship, family and responsibility. It is easy to read and very funny. There are some unexpected plot twists sprinkled throughout as well.

My favorite character is Vik, which is probably not a good thing as he is a horrible person. I like when he shows his few moments of weakness and you can see the lost child within him. I know he is a villain but I see him as a manipulated lost kid, who was forced down the wrong path. I think that is why I like him, or maybe I just enjoy psychotic killers who will do anything to get what they want. I dont know which one is the reason for why I like him.

I would recommend The Time Tider to anyone. It has just enough magic to satisfy any fantasy addict but not enough to put off fantasy haters. There is an air of mystery throughout the book which makes it great for people who like mysteries. Even though it is middle grade I think any age would enjoy it.
