The Butterfly Assassin

The Butterfly Assassin is about Isabel Ryans, a trained assassin trying to escape her old life. She enrolls herself in a public school and tries to live a normal life, but normal is hard when all she knows is how to kill. She manages to pull off ”normal” for about eight pages… and then she kills someone. (Old habits die hard.)

I love The Butterfly Assassin because it was fun to read and full of unexpected twists. The story is fast paced and hard to out down. The setting is in a dystopian urban environment where guilds control most activity, including who lives and who dies. There is plenty of violence and gore, but friendship and hope.

My favourite characters are Emma and Rory. An illegal graffiti artist, Emma’s tough childhood gave here a strong character and fierceness. I like Rory because she is a cat who pops up in one scene and I have no other reasons, I just love her. (It’s a little weird, I know.)

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the Hunger Games. Both books have dystopian setting and revolve around a desperate fight for survival.

Finn is really awesome. I met them at Young Adult Literature Convention (YALC) in London. Finn participated in an amazing panel on dystopian books. There were also some little Butterfly Assassin pins, I took a few. I am dying to read the next book in the series!
