Hedgewitch by Skye McKenna

Hedgewitch is about Cassie Morgan. Seven years after Cassie last saw her mother, she is proclaimed dead. Cassie refuses to believe it. Left alone in a wretched boarding school filled with bullies, she escapes. She gets chased by a group of goblins and is surprising saved by a talking cat and flying broom. The cat, Montague, brings her to the small town of Hedgely and informs her that she comes from a long line of witches, strong women who protect Britain from the faerie. The faerie are far more dangerous and scary than any of Cassie’s books say.

I love Hedgewitch because it is super exciting and it is hard to guess what is coming next. It captures childhood rivalry and teamwork really well. It also has amazing illustrations scattered throughout. The characters feel like real people and they are super entertaining.

My favorite character is probably Rue because I think she is really funny and she has a great personality. I would want to be her friend.

I would recommend Hedgewitch to anybody who enjoys fantasy. It is middle grade but I think all ages would enjoy it.
