Gwen and Art are Not In Love by Lex Croucher

Gwen and Art are Not In Love is about Gwen and Arthur who have been betrothed all their lives, but the only thing they can agree on is their hatred for each other. When Gwen catches Arthur kissing a boy and Arthur finds her diary (filled with entries about Bridget Leclair, the kingdom’s only female knight), they become allies. They pretend to fall in love to protect each other, but with Gwen growing closer to Bridget and  Arthur becoming fond of Gabriel ( Gwen’s brother and heir to the thrown), their secret may be harder to keep than anticipated.

I tend not to like romance books but with this book, only the first half felt like a romance book. The second half was filled with enough war, death and betrayal for the romance to not get boring.

I love most of the characters, but Gabriel is definitely my favourite. I love all of his animals – especially Merlin – and also like how much he changes when he’s with different people and changes throughout the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute, historical fantasy book with lots of queer representation.
