Where The River Takes Us is a sweet and heartwarming book. It is gripping and you will be unable to put it down. I read it in just over a day.
In 1974, the miners strike and three day week have affected everyone, but thirteen year old Jason is affected more that the average family. After his parents pass, it is just him and his older brother. Struggling for money, his brother makes some choices that could get him arrested. When Jason learns about reward money for a photo of the Blaengaw Beast – a large cat-like creature sighted around a town just a few miles away – Jason and his friends know they have to get that money to help his brother.
One of the reasons I love Where The River Takes Us is because of the characters. Each one is so different and they all feel so real.
Where The River Takes Us is one of my favorite middle grades this year. It is such a beautiful book. I love the scenery, I feel like I’m there.
I would recommend Where The River Takes Us to anyone who enjoys middle grade, historical fiction or wants a short happy book to read.
