The Weather Girls by Sarah Webb

The Weather Girls follows Grace and her friend Sibby who live in Blacksod, Ireland. Grace lives in a lighthouse and weather station and she and her family are tasked with sending weather reports to England every hour. She starts to figure out these weather reports are crucial to the war. But tension rises when they save a German soldier from a plane crash and Grace’s family are viewed as traitors by the town. On top of that Sibby starts fighting with her. Grace plays a crucial part in this war, but will she be able to continue her reports with everything that’s happening?

The Weather Girls is a really sweet book. It gives the reader a really good view into what The Emergency was like in Ireland and how it was viewed by the general public.

What I think makes this book really special is that it was inspired by real people. A woman named Maureen Flavin was in charge of weather reports that impacted the events of World War 2. I think this book is a beautiful way to remember her and all of the other people who were a part of World War 2.

The Weather Girls is full of bravery and exciting adventure. It was so fun to read about the friendship between Grace and Sibby and I loved reading about how other relationships developed throughout the book. I really enjoyed the tension throughout the book and getting to read about how Sibby and Grace changed at the start of the war, the middle of the war, and after the war ended.

This book is great for anyone who is interested in World War 2 and The Emergency. There is a lot of information at the end of the book that is really interesting to read, such as the time period and the people and events that inspired the book.
