I loved this book. The Things We Leave Behind is a dystopian book set in England during a time of civil unrest and a corrupted government. It follows Clem and her sister Billie as they escape London, a home that is no longer safe, and search for safety. The story is told from Clem’s memory throughout the book, but she’s not telling the full story.
The love Clem has for Billie through this book is so sweet. The way they support each other through difficult times and danger is just great. Clem’s story is really interesting to read about as she journeys to safety with just a notebook and memories of a life she can’t go back to. The Things We Leave Behind left me with a very bittersweet feeling when I finished it. It has a really sad ending that I do not recommend reading on public transport as screaming kids can be very distracting while reading.
The Things We Leave Behind has amazing characters that are really interesting to learn about ass Clem retells her memories. One of my favorites is Mischa because of how she’s always with Clem even when she’s not there in the flesh. Mischa is really funny and you can see how good of a friend she is.
This book is beautiful. It’s great for anyone who is looking for a book that will keep them awake way too late at night. It’s perfect for lovers of dystopian books, corrupt governments and really sweet sibling bonds.
