Finding Phoebe is a Young Adult book that follows Phoebe, an autistic teenager who has a plan for her life. She wants to be a writer, she knows where she’ll live and she has all the friends she needs: just one. She’s done a good job of getting through school with as few incidents as possible but when her best friend gets a secret boyfriend, Phoebe has to navigate the new world of lies and deception to cover for her. But when events take an unexpected turn, Phoebe starts to learn about another side of her self, one she never could have imagined.
Finding Phoebe is a really sweet book. I really enjoyed reading it. This book covers a lot of heavy topics in a really impactful way.
I really love Phoebe as a character. She has a really strong voice that is super fun to read. I also love her relationship with Bethany, her best friend. Their friendship is a bit rocky and has some complications but they are so supportive of each other. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop and grow stronger even with the changes that were happening in their lives.
Finding Phoebe has a lot of unexpected twists. I liked seeing Phoebe develop through the story and seeing things through her unique lens of autism. For instance, she structured her life a lot, but learned to be more adaptable as she was faced with more and more challenges. I loved that she was able to step out of her comfort zone and start to enjoy doing it.
Finding Phoebe is great for anyone looking for a heartwarming and funny book. I’d recommend it to anyone 13+
