Fia And The Last Snow Deer by Eilish Fisher

Fia And The Last Snow Deer is a verse novel set in a land where winter hasn’t ended for many solstices. Fia and her snow deer, Solace, are prophesied to end the winter and return the sun. With only five days until the next solstice and with the village getting increasingly more hungry every day, Fia and her cousin, Mish, need to bring Solace to the Deer Mother and willingly sacrifice her to bring back the sun.

Fia And The Last Snow Deer is a really sweet and beautiful book. It has amazing characters. I loved reading about the bond between Fia and Solace, it added a lot of depth to both of their characters. I also really liked seeing how Mish and Fia grew closer throughout their journey and seeing the sacrifices they made for each other.

I really enjoyed the world Fia And The Last Snow Deer is set in. I loved getting to see more of Fia’s world when she met creatures like Wolf and the shadows. Learning about why the endless winter was occurring and how it had effected everything was really interesting.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys verse novels, or authors like Sarah Crossan. Fia And The Last Snow Deer is such a great Middle Grade book that I think anyone would enjoy.

Fia And The Last Snow Deer is filled with stunning illustrations that capture the feelings of the story. The verse novel style of writing makes the book really easy to read and it helps to convey the tension and emotion in the book.
